Becoming a Member

Crail Golfing Society is the seventh oldest golf club in the world, dating from 1786. It is proud of its over 225 years history and is conscious of its special place in the world of golf. The Society is thriving today and the original 11 founders have developed into an active membership, including men, ladies and juniors, both local and overseas.

Becoming a member is simple. All that is required is that you complete the application form (click here to download), have it signed by a proposer and a seconder (both of whom must be current members of two years standing) and send it to the Membership Secretary.

We appreciate that you may not know any existing members and in that case, please contact the Membership Secretary (tel. 01333 450686 or email [email protected]) and a meeting will be arranged for you with the Captain and another Committee member, who will introduce you to the Society.

Adult membership

Adult membership at Crail includes the following benefits:

  • unlimited access for year round play on both Balcomie Links and Craighead Links
  • entry into club competitions
  • maintenance of handicap for all home members
  • 24 member guest tickets on each course per year (15 summer, 9 winter) at the member guest rate of £15.00
  • the ability to book tee times up to one week in advance
  • access to members' priority tee times
  • introduction of visitors to the Clubhouse
  • voting rights in the affairs of the Society
  • members' guest fees at Scotscraig, Ladybank, Lundin Links and Royal Tenerife
  • half price green fees at Dunblane, Forfar, Alyth and Kilmarnock Barassie
  • reciprocal golf on the 3 courses at Blairgowrie free of charge (guests £40.00)
  • use of the Royal Overseas League clubhouse on Princes Street, Edinburgh
  • 10% members' discount in the Clubhouse and Pro Shop

Overseas membership

Overseas membership can be on an annual basis. Alternatively there is the option of Overseas Life membership; for more information on this click here or contact the Membership Secretary .

In this case, the benefits of becoming a member of the 7th oldest golf club in the world are:

  • access to both courses for up to eight rounds per annum (eight on each course)
  • four member's guest tickets on each course per annum at the guest rate of £15.00 per round
  • ability to book tee times up to a year in advance
  • access to members' priority times
  • members' guest fees at Scotscraig, Ladybank, Lundin Links and Royal Tenerife
  • half price green fees at Dunblane, Forfar, Alyth and Kilmarnock Barassie

Overseas applications should be supported by a reference from the applicants home club.

Overseas members may also become Full Adult members as above.
